Community Supported Agriculture

A CSA is a great way to eat fresh every week, get your kitchen in tune with the seasons, and directly support small scale sustainable agriculture. We grow produce on our farmstead and we also support other local & regional farmers to bring you a great variety of quality produce through the season.

CSA members will receive a basket of seasonal produce and artisan bread from our farm every week during the season. Our CSA runs from April through December and you are welcome to join anytime!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: How much does it cost?

A: There is a membership fee of $30 to reserve your spot for the season.  That commitment helps us to plan our planting rotations, buy seeds, and cover the cost of our CSA members only events for the season.  Each box costs $25/per week (or less if you use our upfront payment discounts!).   The Tryout Session box averages to $30/per week.  Overall, we tend to give out about 15- 20% more food than this money would buy at a market like Earthfare or Publix when averaged out over the year!

Q: How much food do I get in my box?

A: Each box offers 5 to 7 different items, usually with  herbs and bread. The food in the box is whatever is at the peak of harvest during that week and that season. Some boxes might be fairly light weight and full of hearty greens while other boxes will be quite heavy from pounds of tomatoes, fruit, or winter squash.  We also try to include some ready to eat items to make sure your value is in every box.  Every week is different with some weeks having a tremendous harvest and other weeks a more slender harvest. Some people complain of too much food while others  finish off the box by the weekend and buy even more from us at Farmers' Markets. Everyone’s eating habits and cooking styles are different, but we assure you: you will eat a lot more veggies when you join our CSA - and your body will thank you for it!

Q: Are you certified organic?

A: We are not certified organic.  All products from our home farm do meet or exceed all organic standards.  We also strive to create a healthy, vibrant, ecosystem and economy that is strong, bio-diverse, and resilient... that also happens to produce food for us humans and provide a livelihood for farmers!

To ensure that you get a great variety of items, we  support several local and regional farms that use a wide range of organic and conventional growing practices.

Q: What do I do if I’m on vacation?

A: Since our food keeps growing regardless of the lives of us humans, your box will still be prepared for you. You may choose to have a friend or neighbor pick up your box while you are gone - in this case please let us know who it is and what date(s) they will be claiming your box. Otherwise, we will donate your food to a local Food Bank or to our farm crew.

Q: What happens if I forget to pick my box up?

A: At most pick-up sites and at the farm, we are working hard to make sure that you have a large window of time to pick up your box at your convenience.   If you do pick your box up after several days, it is a good idea to let all your leafy greens soak in cold sink water for 20 minutes to an hour before washing, drying, and storing them. If you still forget to pick your box up by the end of the week,  your food will either be donated to a local Food Bank, to our farm crew, or to our pigs.

Q: What if I forget to return my empty box/bag?

A: This is a big one, as our boxes/bags cost us upwards of $3 each, so please try to bring them with you.

Q: How can I pay?

A: Currently, we accept cash, check or credit card.  We prefer cash or check since we have to charge extra to cover the credit card processing fees if you choose to pay with a card.

To reserve your spot, we need your $30 membership fee.  You can then choose to pay for your session right away or wait until your first pickup date.
By your first pickup date, we require an upfront payment in full or you can choose to pay in two installments.  You can pay either of those options with cash, check or credit card.  Check method for two payments: writing two checks and post dating one for later deposit.
You can also choose to pay by credit card and be charged monthly/weekly from a card that we will keep on file.
We will work with you individually on what payment options are best for your budget!

Q: Can I visit the farm?

A: We are hoping to offer CSA gatherings for our members this season!  We are looking forward to getting to know everyone!

Q: Can I buy a gift membership for someone else?

A: Yes, you are more than welcome to do so. We will work with you to arrange all of the details for your “Gift Membership.”

Q: I am not planning on becoming a member of your farm. Can I still stop by your farm to buy some products?

A: Please stop by our new shop, The Liars Table, in Elk Park.  Located at 8060 US N Hwy 19E Elk Park, NC 28622

or online at www.theliarstable.com

Q: Can I sign up for a trial box?

A: Yes, you may arrange for a 4 week , Tryout Session at a cost of $120.

Buying a CSA share means that you share in the risk of farming. The farmers will do its best to provide you with quality food. Each week you will receive a share in our harvest. However, there is no guaranteed refund for crop failure due to extreme weather (drought, flood, etc.) or any other act of God.
